This is a note to let you know that our home is changing. Our kids are growing and learning to become responsible Guatemalans. They have not arrived and like all children they slip and fall and have to be lifted up. The learning process is not always easy.

We have implemented a discipline system which has helped gain control. Most of the children have had abuse in their background, so our new affective discipline is equivalent to "Standing in the corner". With 32 children we just don't have enough corners in the house. LOL. So it was suggested that they must stand for a certain amount of time with their noses on the wall. This has worked. It is not a fun 4-30 minutes. (Thank you Amy for the suggestion.) When a child is caught in a lie or problems with others their noses are put to a wall and the timer is set. Depending on the problem and the age of the child. 4 year olds. 4 minutes etc.

Today it was reported that the timer had disappeared. Hmmmm? Wonder where it went? Larry and I told the kids, if timer comes back no punishment, but until it comes back no one can play outside. Within twenty minutes the timer was found. It was just in the trash. Strange.

I just wanted to share the fact that we do teach the children to understand consequences for their actions, and there are rewards when they do obey. The Bible teaches this simple truth, it is a hard lesson sometimes, but we know that the Lord is faithful to teach us that we can be happy in this world as long as we follow the rules. We are blessed.

We are so excited to see what the Lord has done here.

VBS here at the church where all the children of the home attend, was a real success and several children
expressed their desire to follow Jesus. We are happy for them.

Attached are a few photos of this week's activities. My class was the little ones. They are like little sponges. School if fun and they were in school all week.

Just a short note to say the children in the home were excited at 11:30 to watch fireworks, and light off fireworks that Papa Pedro took them to buy yesterday. It was cold and windy, but that didn't matter. The mama's went out to buy "Grapes"! Why, well the tradition is to make a wish on a Grape on New Years eve. Funny? Well yes, but not any different than playing Santa at Christmas or eating chocolate bunnies at Easter. Or celebrating with fireworks on 4 of July and New Years.

Mama Luky made their famous "Ponche" Fruit Drink, with chunks of fruit floating in the juice. Also Chuchitos (little puppies), a traditional Tamale with meat and a bone in the center. (much like what the Americans call Hot Dog. As you mean think, these are not my favorites.

The home is quiet this morning our Church service is at 5 pm. We are praying for new and great things the Lord has for us, that we can learn this year along with the children we are raising.

Tomorrow starts VBS. We pray souls will be saved as we teach.

Lizzy's Birthday

We made a fun party for the 2 little one year old girls today. They were happy with the attention and the kids and the babies loved the cake. Wonderful memories for these little ones who have already suffered more than most Americans.
We are so thankful for the people who love the abandoned children. Lizzy is very loved and she is a sweet almost spoiled little girl.
She received lots of gifts. She is almost walking, taking a few steps at a time. She has her own language and chatters with expression.
God brought her to us and we are thankful we had room. There is always room for one more.

Thanks for praying for Lizzy.

Happy Birthday, Lizzy you are now a big girl and already figured out her sippy cup.

Victoria's Birthday

Our special little Victoria is now one year old. She has been to the USA, she has had numerous examines, and she has traveled to the city many times. All of her trips and examines have been provided by people who love the fatherless.
Victoria was abandoned by her mother at birth and spent a weeks in a hospital before she came to our home. We are so glad that we were here and able to help this baby. Victoria is a little girl with hearing problems and hearing aids are in her near future. As soon as she is without a cold she will have her eye surgery.
Please continue to pray for this little baby. I mean big girl with a sippy cup. : )

New Year / New Look

This is a start of something new. Nidosolola.com is changing format and we pray that each post will be encouraging to each of our followers.

God is doing wonderful things here at Nido Del Aguila (Eagle's Nest). We have 32 children now in our home. We will be featuring different children and sharing their stories. We pray that we can help more children as the needy are brought to our attention.

As you can imagine, it is not an easy task to spend time, teach and encourage our children everyday. The Staff here at "Nido" are working toward this goal.

School will start in two week and the schedule will be demanding, but we praise the Lord for the help arriving and the new workers starting for the year 2012. We have several children who are still not on their level for reading and writing. Pray for them as they struggle to gain the knowledge they need to make it in life.
